yes you should let your gecko shed on its own; no its not painful for them. when they shed they do it on their own and they eat their shed and it gives them tons of nutrients, that is a reason why they may not eat while they are shedding as well.

You should never do that because it can actually hurt the gecko only if they need help you can help them because I have a gecko so you can just hurt the gecko so don’t ever do that
