Yes, they don't like when mom leaves. They are such precious girls. I'm sure it makes it difficult to go run errands. 🦦🦦🦦🦦❤

The key is that they can't be left alone. Otters are natural communicators like we are, and they live in familial groups as we do. Being left by themselves is like a punishment; it's the same with ferrets and minks from what I understand. They can get scared and panicky and try to escape and wreck everything, and if they can't escape then they can get depressed or have an emotional breakdown of sorts. It's a bad idea to leave unless they have another person or an independent animal who can look after them.

Small-Clawed Otters are so social and, since Loutre-san and other responsible otter-keepers place themselves as the leader of their pack, it's only natural they get lonely when the "alpha" leaves. Especially Otsuyu. 🥺
We also saw this with Otter Aty. When Otterman broke his ankle and had to go to the hospital for 10 days, Aty was fine at first, but once he thought "Daddy" may be gone forever, he broke down: crying, scratching, the works.

As far as I know, otters are extreemly social creatures.
As much or more then humans.
Their owner is part of the family.
And if they are gone, they are worried.

It's official your're the mom...no bathroom privacy from the kids...it's the hallmark🐾❤😄

Small Claws do love living groups. It's probably torture when you leave.

Otters are so smart so they do get lonely and depressed sometimes, and it breaks my heart to think about it.

Nothing more enjoyable than spending some quality time alone playing with your weasel.
