ALWAYS do this with your Ground Fault Locator

Having trouble finding a ground fault with your ground fault locator? Let's test the equipment and rule out any issues.
1 - Click on the receiver with the knob and hold the battery test button to check it.
2 - Make sure the fuse is properly installed into the transmitter. Align the fuse and slide it all the way in. Then give the cap a stiff push and a one quarter turn.
3 - Keep clear of the leads and turn on the transmitter. A strong beep should sound every few seconds or else it may need to be charged overnight.
4 - Turn off the transmitter and ground each of the leads apart from each other. The needle on the receiver should always kick away from the black side and towards the red side. the closer to either black or red the stronger the kick will be.
When looking for an actual ground fault, you should get a big response near the ground stake but it fades as you go down the wire path. keep going and you should eventually find a kick near the fault just as strong as you had near the transmitter.
