Is this forgotten cocktail from 1941 any good?

The Pan American appears in the 1941 Rum Connoisseur by Ronrico. The drink calls for *Pa-Pi-A* syrup which is what you'd find Papaya called back in the 1930s and 1940s. Ronrico was a popular rum company that created many consumer pamphlets and bartender guides in the 1940s - 1960s with the famous *Chico Presents Ronrico Mixtro's Guides.* The Mitro's Guides were meant for the trade while the "A to Z Drinkin" and "Rum Connoisseur" were widely available/ You could get yourself a guide with the purchase of Ronrico rums or write in and they'd send you one. While the Ronrico distillery was based in Puerto Rico, the guides came from Miami.

Love your channel. I recently got into cocktails and love tiki stuff. I figured out rum is my fave spirit. So far I have plantation 3 star, el dorado 12, smith and cross as my rums. Plantation’s soft creaminess is my fave. Ur channel has helped me get a good starting grip on tiki.

Love the Doctor Bird Pineapple. Great choice for a substitution.

Sounds lovely and delicious! Thanks for the awesome cocktail and info!! I am primarily a single malt Islay peated scotch connoisseur but I do enjoy a nice rum cocktail occasionally!! I like the rum choices!! Rich and pungent sounds wonderful to me! Dr. Bird is amazing!! Cheers!! 🥂

Love papaya, so I will definitely try this drink. Thanks for bringing it to light!

I see that you and I have similar book collections. Small Batch Jam Co. makes a good papaya syrup.

If you're looking for a strange but good tiki drink to make try the Peg Leg from "Tiki Modern Tropical Cocktails".

I would sub out the papaya syrup for honey syrup to play off the Drambuie.

Maybe you could substitute papaya syrup with less passion fruit syrup and sustitute the bar sugar with honey or demerara syrup. Leave out the drambue and see where it goes.

Either Doctor Bird nor Hamilton is available in Europe. 😕

What about using guava syrup instead of papaya syrup?

Papaya smells like baby poop. As soon as my wife pointed that out to me the fruit was ruined forever.
