Also CNN needs to quit asking when the counter offensive is going to start. First off they arent gonna tell the media so why keep asking dumb questions???

Once again the world sees the brutality of the Russians. I hope this incident motivates countries to abandon Russia and declare themselves independent.

"Since mid-February, the water level in the reservoir has steadily increased, according to data from Theia, a French geospatial analytical organization. An Associated Press analysis of satellite imagery showed the water has now risen so high that it's washing over the top of the damaged Russian-occupied dam downstream."

Russia may have been preparing for maximum impact for some time by preventing the normal flow of water - they know Ukraine had the southern occupied territories in their sights for the counteroffensive

Whether the Russians blew the dam up intentionally or not, they are responsible for this catastrophe… if they had not launched this war of aggression and occupied the area around the dam, Ukraine would have naturally maintained it and kept it in good order. Russia allowed it to fall into disrepair and totally mismanaged this important site, therefore they bear the blame for all the damage done to towns, crops, animal life, and the horrendous environmental impact. When this terrible war is over, Russia should be made to pay for ALL of the rebuilding and restoration of Ukraines infrastructure and economy.

First, the flooding will impede the counter offensive. Second, this is in line with Russian scorched earth.

How will this affect the offensive? Majority of the offensive is much further north. Maybe it will effect their ability to get into lower Kherson, but that’s it. Won’t affect anything going on in the East.

I've long been concerned the Russian army may attempt to destroy or breach the dam in Nova Kakhovka in order to create such a widespread flooding in the lower lands of the Kherson region (east bank). Any options the Ukrainians had in Dnipro River crossings as part of their counter-offensive, I would think are now completely off the table. They'll have to focus on Zaporizhzhya and/or the Donbas, which is where the Russian army has been amassing the bulk of their reinforcements over the last few months (when you compare it to the numbers they've maintained in Kherson).
