Nicholas' experience is akin to mine. My brother and I luckily found a good priest who mainly does new mass, but we almost did not convert because of the initial, liberal priest who wanted to keep us in RCIA for 2 yrs. Luckily, the next priest we had did a 6 month process. Moreover, there's a beautiful Sunday - 1pm TLM. Already picked up lots of Latin. I never receive Eucharist without a clear conscience - either. I credit Mother Mary's intercession, as I asked her for a good priest to help bring me to the Church.

He is completely right about the scandalous clothing the laity wear and the shepherds say nothing 🤐

I go to the NO mass and I 100% believe in the real presence, please don’t think everyone that attends thinks it’s just a symbol. I haven’t seen a lot of what he says. Agree it does go on sadly in some parishes

I’m a younger “boomer” who is an older convert to the Catholic Church (as of Christ the King Sunday, November 22, 2015)

I became disillusioned with and started questioning Protestantism as a whole, after the once very “Catholic” lutheran liturgy I was used to was, became very relaxed with projected screens with Bible verses and hymns and praise and worship songs, trying to be cool and current, with so many pastors in other denominations, especially the older denominations, no longer teaching sound Christian doctrine, even happening within the Lutheran Missouri Synod, which is still pretty conservative, and many very “traditional” appearing more catholic than most new mass Catholc churches, at least compared to the other protestant churches …

… having many Catholic friends growing up in the 1960s and attending many Catholic weddings, baptisms, funerals, etc. I was pretty familiar with the new mass.

And while I was disillusioned with the modernism within Protestantism, I didn’t think about converting away from Protestantism until I attended a small beautiful 100 year old catholic church in downtown Washington DC near my office, where a young priest celebrated the new mass in a very traditional way, facing east for the prayers and speaking Latin for some of the responses.

I would go at lunchtime and sit in the back during the noon mass, and I just took it all in. I did not go up to receive communion because as a good Lutheran I understood well we were not “in communion”

Anyway…

The way this priest offered the mass was so beautiful, it was very different from the way mass was celebrated in all the other catholic churches I had ever attended.

One day this young priest met me at the door on my way out, which he never did but I guess he noticed I had been coming, and he asked if I was new to the area and what parish I attended, and I told him I wasn’t Catholic at least not yet and I smiled and he smiled at me and said well we should talk about that sometime.

I emailed him that afternoon and he offered to meet for coffee and so we did and eventually after meeting with him for several months, going over things I had learned the previous few years on my own, including reading, the Catholic catechism, I told him that I could relate to John Henry Newman in that I no longer felt I was protestant.

I had been listening to other Protestant converts to the Catholic faith people like Steve Ray, Scott Hahn and others like Patrick Madrid, and realized I was being drawn to the fullness of the faith that I had come to believe was found within the Catholic Church.

I’m blessed to have a Catholic Church near me in the suburbs that celebrates the new mass in a very reverent way, there are NO guitar masses, NO hand holding (as a Lutheran one would never hold anyone’s hand during the Divine Service) … also this priest encourages kneeling by providing kneelers to receive the Eucharist … it’s a beautiful parish.

I think the Pastor would like to offer Masses even more traditional, in ways closer to a Latin Mass, and maybe someday this will happen but right now, here in Washington DC, the Bishop is not open to more Latin masses, in fact, upon. Pope Francis’ order, he shut down the Latin masses offered in a couple thriving downtown churches.

Anyway. I just want you to know that not all boomers embrace, modernism, guitar masses, , handholding, etc..

We hunger, too, desiring all that is good and true and we are grateful for all the many young people with wonderful young families who are embracing, reverent worship whether it’s in a Latin mass or a new mass. It is clear that moving away from the novelties of the 1960s, 1970s 1980s where churches, many churches, many denominations, we’re trying gimmick basically to see if they can bring more people into the churches, and it obviously has failed and many churches are now no different from other clubs in the community. So no wonder people are not drawn to get up early on Sunday mornings and tend to church. It’s just another club. There’s nothing divine about it.

I’m thankful that Brian Holdsworth introduced me to you guys and I found your channel I’m really enjoying it and I wish all of you the very best God bless you

Hard to go to mass when the focus is on other people and how to take communion...

The earliest church were Greek Mr catholics . They also ate communion bread straight out off the hands. No extra knee and altering kneeling, no latin chants.

How bout that for apostolic liturgical tradition.
