Marie Antoinette is remembered in History today for being the executed Queen of France who was hated by her people and lost her head on the guillotine. Marie was led to the guillotine scaffold in France following her trial, and after the sharp blade fell her remains were placed in a coffin and they were then taken to the Madeleine Cemetery.

Marie's remains were buried inside of a roughly dug grave and they then would be exhumed decades later. But when the grave was opened and the coffin of the former Queen opened, what was found was remarkable.

What they did to her little son just to condemn her was so evil.

I toured Versailles one weekend when I was in Paris. It was revealing. To get in to see the King you had to go through several sequential rooms, each one required a higher signature of approval. By the time you got to the final room-the King's Bedroom-you had to go through about 7-8 rooms. The King was kept isolated from his people by the folks who authorized people to proceed through these rooms, only a very few got access to the King. I doubt he and Marie were very much aware of the problems the poor people of Paris were going through-not because they weren't compassionate, but because the Royal protocol kept them isolated from those problems. By the time they realized how dire things were it was too late, the mob was marching on Versailles.

I enjoyed this video. You showcased some portraits of Marie that I had never seen before. She truly was quite lovely.

Marie-Antoinette (Maria Antonia von Habsburg-Lothringen) refused to speak with the priest who accompanied her because she knew that he was a "prêtre jureur" or priest who had sworn allegiance to the Revolution.

It shows how brash Napoleon was asking the Emperor of Austria for permission to marry his daughter given what the French had done to another Austrian Princess, Marie Antoinette only a few years previously.

She didn’t know her end was coming, her attys assured her she’d likely be stripped financially or exiled at worse, they even didn’t protest of the very short time to trial and didn’t mount much a defense on their mistaken assurances. It was reported they were shocked by the lethal conviction, as were the citizens, as it was uncommon conviction for foreign royalty. The princess was treated unfairly, from the Diamond hoax to, she never said, “let them eat cake”, she was also very philanthropic, more so than other wives of kings of the age. But alas, the uprising and temp end of French monarchy was wholly ripe for the time. Good video.

There's some inaccuracy in this, the French revolution was deconstructive and not reformative like the USA one was. Marie never said the things she is usually accused of nor was the diamond necklace fiasco her doing whatsoever. Louis was also way too soft to be king, having no fortitude to deal with the problems they inherited. Then the Jacobin thing happened and everyone became victims of the mess.

The worst is the unceasing deliberate crude abuse and corruption of the little crown prince 😭

The French revolution was in stark contrast to the American revolution.Wheras the French people weren't treated properly by the monarchy and nobility, the likes of Robespierre, Danton, etc were bloodthirsty butchers that hated not only the monarchy but religion as well. The backlash that came about especially in the Vendee was very telling. The American revolution was one of Liberty and fairness to all.The French revolution executed many innocent common people on the word of those who had their own unjust reasons for it.The revolutionary leaders succumbed and were killed by their own followers

She was sent from Austria as a teenager and she and her husband did not have the training or experience to become queen and king. I feel sorry for her.

A lot of executions in the first weeks of the revolution happened in a kind of "rage"...There was little to none justice involved, decisions were very randomly taken by whoever shouted the loudest. It was a class uproar to a large extent which in heart didn't give a damn about real or valid accusations but only about status, position in society and wealth. Being an intellectual proved also to be a real danger. Initially, to me, it carries a certain resemblance to the Cambodian revolution under Pol Pot or the Chinese under Mao. Power to the people...which soon turned out bad and was later halted by a more considerate group of upcoming leaders, even turning against those of the first moments. But it was a very confusing time...

I do not believe she had any idea, part of the is on Louis XVI, that she was doing much wrong until it was way to late. Agree she should have just been sent home to Austria, but the French needed to see heads roll and boy did they.

In a somber chamber, time's veil unveiled,
A coffin's silence, a history unveiled.
The Queen of France, in her final repose,
In a sepulcher of secrets, her story enclosed.

Marie Antoinette, once resplendent and grand,
Now rests in eternal sleep, in this foreign land.
The blade of the guillotine, sharp and cold,
Took her life, a tale of tragedies untold.

Her beauty and grace, now forever still,
As we gently open the coffin, a moment to fulfill.
A queen whose destiny was marred by fate,
Now lies in this chamber, bearing her weight.

Intrigues of court, a revolution's wrath,
In the pages of history, they left their path.
As we gaze upon her, a silent queen's reprieve,
In death, her majesty and sorrow interweave.

A glimpse into the past, a solemn reflection,
The queen's fate, a profound, timeless connection.
In this solemn moment, her memory remains,
As we open the coffin and witness her remains.

A chapter of history, now laid bare,
In this chamber of echoes, we're made aware.
The queen's story, a tragic, haunting song,
In the coffin's depths, where she belongs.

This is the first I've heard she was actually put in a coffin. I'd always heard she was tossed in a mass grave.

St Denis is the ancestral home of the French royal family. Theres a statue there of Martell who destroyed the Muslim invaders to France, now in a cruel twist, this town is about 85% Muslim through immigration. You couldn't make it up.

According to some references, it's not sure that she said " let them eat cake", they have ascribed this quotation to her to make the people more furious against her and have her removed. Another uncertain reference claims that she was lesbian, and another reference claims that she had an affair with an archbishop, all these lies being made up to debase her in the eyes of the people. How can a lesbian have an affair with an archbishop if she has no attraction to men ?. The famous saying " the rope of lie is short " proves to be true 9:01
