Hey there, I really like your channel! There is a way easier way to do this : Bisect :::> press "v" ( rip vertices ) :::> There are now 2 separated geo which you can select by pressing L.

This is a nice trick, you could do it with no rotation needed like:
After bisect, you could hide vertex (H) then with "L" over the halves you select all faces conected. Then unhide and grow/shrink selection as needed to get the half model. You now can separate (P) and close the holes wif "F". Also instead of bisect (which seams a bit laggy) you could use knife cut "K" (activating cut trhough and straight which are "Z" and "C" on 2.9, this shortcut is changing on 3.0 I belive).

After hours, this solved my issue. Something I found: Bisect is now in the "Knife" menu as of blender 3.5. There's also a nice option to delete everything outside of the selection and fill.

Shifr+8 does nothing I think you may have the wrong key commands there is also no bisect option with the knife

I would just mark a seam on the cut edge. And then just ctr+L to select the area and then separate.

Thank you, the only tutorial that worked

Bisect was exactly what I was looking for. Thanks! But after that I would have made the selection by creating a seam and then used Ctrl+L to pick only one side. But like you said, there are many ways to do that! : )

Hey blender how about select and delete area ( two steps not 54) ? I know you want to keep both parts but then you could make a copy and delete different selections in each then recombine in new file (four steps)

hmm, so I have to go through all these steps to cut a cylinder in half???!!
