“The war will end if one side wins or the other side wins….. or in a stalemate.” wow thanks for the insight patton. I can breath easy now. 😅

Victoria Nuland announced her retirement today, that's all you need to know

5:33 There's that part where Merkel and Hollande who were involved in the Minsk agreement openly stated that the agreement was never intended to be fullfilled on the Western/Ukrainian side, but was rather a ploy to arm Ukraine for a future military confrontation with Russia. I think this backstory is a tad more important to the collapse of the Minsk agreement.

If you believe the war will end in something other than a military victory for Russia you are either getting very inaccurate information or choosing to live in an alternate reality. The only real questions are how long will the conflict continue and what the new borders will be.

Lex Friedman is often too naive or idealistic. He keeps pushing for an answer HE’d like to hear (Putin being ousted, Ukraine resorting its pre-war borders and everyone happy). That won’t happen.

Lex you're backing the wrong horse. And they didn't win at Kyiv. Russia retired in a agreement.

I have no horse in this race whatsoever i don't think us Slavs should be killing each other and are being used once again but it is what it is. Looking at it as an outsider, why would Russia trust any agreement from the West and see it as anything but stalling to create an even stronger Ukraine. They already had agreements with NATO for no expansion east which were blatantly violated. Then they signed 2 different Minsk agreements both of which were broken.

Lex, after Angela Merkel publicly explained how they constructed Minsk Accords to fool Russia and gain time for Ukraine military buildup, never planning to implement them, you seriously bring "New Minsk Accords" on the table? Seriously? No, dear anglo-saxons, enough "agreements" with you. Capitulation. You have finally woken up the bear.

What I'm about to point out may seem like a small nitpick to some, but it's really not. I don't know if anyone else caught this, but when he was talking about what it would take to have Russian forces retreat back to pre-2022 borders, he said it would "require a defeat of Russian forces, like near Kiev". Let's hold the phone for one second. Russian forces weren't defeated near Kiev. They withdrew from Kiev because they were told that this was a precondition for peace talks to take place. Like I said, it may seem like a small lie, but when you think about it, that's a big lie. Reveals his obvious bias.

The had a Minsk agreement. The west were snaking Russia the whole time. Forget about any more Minsk agreements.

Same as a Macedonian professor of history. Watched the whole thing yesterday. Even poor Lex was not buying all the BS.

Why is this gentleman not mentioning the fall of advika in Ukraine in the last weeks and the rapid retreat of the troops? As well as the unfortunate countless loss of lives in this retreat. No matter what anyone believes the battlefield reality will face everyone in 2024. Victoria Nuland is holding on till November

Edit: Victoria Nuland resigned.

Looking at the Ukrainian-Russian war and the horrendous 'results', basically, the responsible people are either incompetent or malicious. There is no other explanation possible in my opinion.

No, dude - the biggest change of last year was the fall of Bakhmut. Failed (spectacularly) Ukrainian counter-offensive too deserves an honourable mention. Considering the current goings on on the ground, the fact that this insanely biased dude expects anything other than a catastrophic defeat for Ukraine and its enablers is mind-boggling. Perhaps they are trying to ignore the impending disaster in a hope that it'll go away?

Russian army wasn't defeated in Kiev they just simply retreat because of peace negotiation in Turkey, and Ukraine took that opportunity and ambushed them. Everybody knows that

Political change in Moskow may also go the wrong way for Ukraine and the West.

Lex Fridman you've been too long time away from Europe I guess. There is no theoretical way of going back to the situation before the war. Ukraine did sign the Minsk agreement but never intended to adhere to. That's one of the reason the war started.
