In the United States President Donald Trump has announced new guidelines for states to emerge from a coronavirus shutdown. The new federal guidelines recommend states record a 14-day "downward trajectory" in coronavirus cases before beginning a three-phase process of re-opening.
Speaking at his daily briefing on the coronavirus, which has killed more than 32 000 Americans, Trump said some states could begin re-opening immediately and that 29 others could take that step "relatively soon." The recommendations are not orders, although earlier this week Trump claimed he had total authority to direct states to re-open or remain closed.
