Which one should I learn?: R or python

I have been working with R and Python the last few weeks, and I definitely have a favorite.
In this video I will tell you which one is my favourite and give you four reasons why that is.

This is just my personal experience, I recommend you to test before so you can make your mind too.

So after 6 months and going back to coding school for Python and ML.
I say python is good for doing huge calculation and transformation but is not as robust as Excel(PQ/DAX)
As you code in python, you literally need to know what you want to do or achieve before getting into the final output whereas in Excel, you can work on the data transformation within PQ and pass huge calculation within DAX and look at the data via Pivot Table
.... Just my 2 cents worth :)

R is so clean and intuitive.
I feel like it is more "brain friendly" .
You can go deeeep as hell in your solutions and still have control of it...

Python can do everything R can do in terms of statistics, but also a lot more (in terms of general programming, AI, web development, etc). So, I'd say Python. I fact recently, many have switched from R to Python, due to the fact that working with Pandas and NumPy is very easy to learn.
Also, since the libraries underneath Numpy are highly optimized C and Fortran, they're crazy fast, so you get the both of both worlds - the speed of C and ease of use of Python.

LOL, I had very similar experience working with python after working R. I'm glad to hear you say this!

Coming from Excel and DAX, I'm learning and enjoying R.
I have to say that it helps me to better understand DAX.

In general I prefer Python to R, but with Power BI, I'd probably recommend R, at least until Python integration is more mature. It will be interesting to revisit this in a year.

I randomly started R... And i will continue it for sometime

Can you refer any tutorials for R in Power BI ?

I am Power bi Consultant and planning to learn a R without knowing much python or R is better. Your video gave me huge motivation and I gonna start R today. Thank you so much! :)

Thank you. I am just a beginner to this too. I only know a little java from years ago but not much at that haha

Comparing Python to R is like comparing Access databases to SQL server management studio. Python offers you not only data analysis capabilities, but AI, machine learning advanced codes, web page programming, SQL control, advanced web scrapping, app development (Kivy). It will get fully integrated with Power BI one day.

Thank you for the video! I personally think that Python is more clear to read, and also easier to learn, but that may be because I know it better.

Python, because is easy to learn, has a larger community for help. can use in more differents areas of programming.

If it's for someone to start acquiring some general coding knowledge and capability, definitely Python, it's easier, more intuitive and potential other uses are unlimited. R is a limited game in comparison.

Muchas gracias!

Thank you Ruth! I would give another point to R because there are many visual controls in Power Bi developed in R & you need R Studio in order the make these customs controls work, A year ago I tested some R visual controls but at the end I didn't use R controls because they didn't work in my reports when used them from the Power BI service, From your words it looks like that now R works if you open a report from the Power BI service. Is that true?
I would like to give a point to the poor Phyton... maybe there are much more libraries of code available tested & ready to use but the ones a BI scientist uses to use are already implemented in R! Phyton is more for graphical issues, Physics etc... but for Statistcs it is R!

I am working with our company on moving process data into platforms like Power BI. Looking at using tools like Python or R. Of course now Python as moved forward in terms of Power BI integration. But like you installing Python was a bit of pain. Thanks for your videos, I find them very helpful.

You should add in the title a big "for PowerBI". R is not even remotely as efficient and production ready as Python. I have used R and Python for years, and I ended translating all my R code to Python when it came to working in a real production environment. I also have to strongly disagree with you when you talk about R not needing long packages installations etc...if you want to do some serious machine learning and statistical analysis, you will want to use caret, and maybe hetcor etc...and they are really all but intuitive to install and use, adding to the fact that they are not really reliable in all their versions.
Again, R is fine for prototyping and playing around with data, I really used it a lot. And certainly it is better integrated into PowerBI, but apart from this use, Python is, in my opinion, the evident choice (Python is also faster than R, being both quite slow) when you want to do some serious data science oriented programming, and you don't know Java/C/C++.

Hello Python, I have an issue that I couldn’t find any solution to it yet. I have 11 files xlsx in the sever and the first 2 files columns headers don’t match the rest of the files only 1 letter is in uppercase. When I combine them in the edit query I get data only for the first 2 files and the rest no. I found out that the headers are sensitive and match each other. How can I solve this in edit query?
