Military background? As a student pilot in Russia I would say that most of pilots in Russia are civil pilots without military background.

1) Russian pilots don’t have military background flight experience.
2) GPS isn’t banned in Russia
3) you should take cash dollars or euros with you and exchange them

Been to Russia back in 2006. One of the coolest trips I’ve ever been on. I don’t travel much and we went as a symphony to play in different locations in Moscow and St Petersburg during summer. Our guide has ties to the Russian Mob, it was crazy.
