As a tire tech, this would be so nice to have on more vehicles. A few have it stock, it’s way better than having to crank that shit up on an f350 with an 8 inch lift

Suggestion for longevity: add a second washer and lubricate between the two and the head of the bolt with graphite. Drill a hole in the bolt and pass a wire through to tie off to a welded tab to prevent it from loosening unintentionally

Already do this. Just put the rod from your stock kit that lowers the spare, slide it into the chuck of a drill. Boom.

Had a buddy who’s cable was all old and rotted. I spent 5 minutes banging on it with a hammer and right as I was about to get my tools I gave it one more angry swing and it started retracting the spare tire back up… good times.

Pro tip, with Volvos especially but some other cars can too. You could use a cordless impact with a socket on it to jack the car up 😂 Used to do this before I had access to lifts.

I made an adapter so I can use my impact drill just like this on my 99 dodge ram. It goes into the factory hole for bring the spare up or down, it's pretty easy and you don't have to customize your truck in any way 😅 it's just an adapter made from an old spare tire rod

that's genius, especially if you have a carrier arm to hold its weight. That airplane cable will not hold that much weight and all the hard bounces it will have under a life on the road and off road, too. Its genius to get it up there! though.
