As of 2025, USAF only has a little less than 2000 operation fighters. US navy with even less. This is comparable to China. In total it’s estimated their operation fleet for USAF is around 5k with the navy having 2.5k. China has 3.7k aircraft on estimate. In terms of size, China is second.

China could honestly be higher. But we don’t know as the numbers are an estimation. China has not done an inventory count for a few years now.

China, at this time, is out producing the USA in fighter jets. I don't like it but it's true. By 2027 they will equal the USA in numbers. But remember the USA has the best trained pilots.
