Imagine how crazy it must have been driving on tracks like Monza, Spa, Indy, Le Mans and others with the safety standards they had back then....

I wish we could get this layout in the games

They should bring back this layout if it could be done safely, it would be super interesting.

The true Monza! To anyone who hasn't seen F1 cars in action on this incredible circuit, lookup Grand Prix 1966 Monza on YouTube. It's an amazing watch.

I think they raced at Avus too, but it was during the pre-F1 GP Era.

The closest we get is Indycar

Like NASCAR but with f1

The "Circuito Alta Velocità" (lit. "High-Speed Track") - Unfortunately it has been largely abandoned, if restored and put back in use it might make for a good test-track, maybe even for an IndyCar and/or a NASCAR European event.

The dudes that drove it to a win, had some balls

It was cool to see WRC cars race on parts of the oval in 2020.

the oval is somehow intact but don't look at the stilts beneath

Been there multiple times, and it's a very special place to see with your own eyes. Climbing on the banking is extremely challenging. Monza as a whole is such a historic place ❤

I'd like to see nascar pay to hold exhibitions on this!

I don't think FIA would allow it (race on monza oval), because the oval surface & construction deteoriates almost beyond repair & it would not pass the FIA inspection. If fans really wanna see oval with banking circuit, the closest things they would get is Daytona International Speedway with IMSA Road Couse layout for 24 hours Daytona.

But the problem is : infield road course of Daytona only FIA Grade-2.

Id love if this version of the track came back with modern safety features

The information is correct except for one thing: the combined circuit with the oval was not used in 1957. It was used for the first time after the big renovation of the circuit in 1955. Fangio won with the Mercedes-Benz W196, which was also the last race for MB before retiring from motorsports. Last year I had the pleasure of visiting Monza for the first time, in time for the WEC race. The entrance to the parking lot was first under the south banking of the oval, then on the original back straight from 1922, then a 90 degree turn to what was part of the Florio circuit from the 1930s and finally the parking spot on the very same oval straight, almost on the south banking. Great place to visit if you're interested in motorsports history, as much of the place is still pretty much as it was back in the day.

May I add this will never come back. In 1961 Von Trips, title contender for that season, ended up in an accident at the first banked turn, and died alongside multiple photographers and spectators who were hit by the car

I honestly think adding an oval race to f1 wouldnt really be ridiculous. (especially in this era of "The show" where anything goes). it would be interesting to see what the cars could do. Doesnt have to be daytona or IMS. Twin ring Motegi would be cool.

While the modern formula 1 organization (est. 1950 iirc) officially never raced at an oval, there were several grand prix held at oval tracks prior to that. Notably the German Grand Prix at Avus, I believe they also raced at the Brooklands oval in the 40s, and throughout the 20s and 30s they raced at many board tracks (oval circuits that were "paved" with wooden planks instead of asphalt)
