I`ve listened to Kary Mullis the inventor of the PCR old interviews and many other things I`ve read and watched, is it not right when you run the cycles on the test on higher cycles that get more false positives and also can detect non infectious material in people and make a positive when the person is not infectious ?

why can't i just run end point pcr with f.e. 10-15 cycles in the exponential phase and measure afterwards? wouldn't it also be quantitative?
