I can not decide between learning javascript or php. I dont know what to focus on that would be worth while in the long run. What do you recommen?.

how do you create your sites? Do you code them by hand or use something like wordpress. I made a site in wordpress before and found that I needed little knowledge beyond basic html and css. I could not find a need to write a line of javascript or php. I only see it useful when coding by hand or making a wordpress plugin or something like that. Just feel like im learning in vain sometimes.
