Thank you! You've inspired me. As I look back at recent trips, it was those periods when I wandered around alone that I met and interacted with interesting locals or joined into local events. I don't think I want to stop traveling with someone else, but I do want to start heading out on my own more of the time during the trip. I realize now that it doesn't have to be either/or with solo travel; one can travel with others but spend some of the time solo for a better encounter with locals and local culture.
