Tutorial 15 - What are numpy arrays in Python?

Images are nothing but multi-dimensional lists. But performing mathematical operations on lists is difficult. This task has been made easy by numpy.

Numpy is a scientific computing library designed to support large multi-dimensional arrays (lists). This tutorial explains the basics of numpy arrays and walks you though a couple of mathematical operations such as finding maximum, minimum, and average values in these arrays.
