Brief Political History of Uruguay

This video explores the basics of Uruguayan history and politics to explain how it is that Uruguay overcame a history of civil war and conflict to become one of the better run and richest countries in Latin America. It begins with Artigas revolt against the Spanish in alliance with Buenos Aires, how he turned against them and ended up in exile. How Uruguay was born as a buffer state between Brazil and Argentina and what led to the creation of blancos and colorados. It then covers the transformative power of Battle y Ordoñez, the coup in 1973 and its return to democracy in 1985. It ends with Pepe Mujica and Luis Lacalle Pou.

Thank you for making this. My father lived in Uruguayan in the 1960’s. We grew up listening to stories of Uruguay. I’ll use this in my AP World History class.

Clean video about the history of the country, already sent it to some contacts as it's worth the watch, thank you!

This is a very VERY good video! The only things I'd change is first a mention of Positivist educator José Pedro Varela in during the 1870s militarist period who made public education: free, irreligious and compulsory. Also the main problem with the Broad Front main problem was the inability to handle the rampant spike in crime since the year 2000, not the stagnant economy since 2015. Other than that, this video is TOP NOTCH. One of the best if not the best I've seen.

This video provides details on events that are not necessarily well informed.
Thank you for your time, work and share 👍
Can I put it in a link in a voluntary work on the history of the revolutions in France and in the world since 1789?

Y'all may think it's bad that child labor was abolished in 1915 in Uruguay, but they later became the first nation to win the World Cup after that

If the military had refused to recognize the results of the 1980 plebiscite, we would have a different constitution, so that did not happen. Also, by September 1972, the tupamaros were completely defeated, so under no scenario was the 1973 coup intended to "restore order".

Good video but the way the video is made is very distracting and annoying with the way the pictures are filled out...

BadEmpanada claimed in his Argentina was Never Rich video that Uruguay was ruled by “orthodox liberals and conservatives throughout most of the 20th century”. Sounds like that was a lie. They sound way more Peronist than he wants to admit.

I think it was a CIA agent and not FBI. The CIA agent was an torture expert that had traveled around in Latin America and was taken for exchange for political prisoners but the US denied all involvement and they shot him. Or maybe i am mixing up 2 different stories..?
