Turkey: Blast at rocket and explosives factory in Ankara kills 5

An explosion occurred at the MKE Rocket and Explosive Factory in the Elmadağ district of Ankara Saturday at 8:45 am local time. The explosion took place approximately 40 km east of the center of the capital, Ankara.

Ankara mayor Vasap Sahin addressed the media in a brief press conference, suggesting that the blast in the dynamite preparation section was likely triggered by a chemical reaction. The governor reassured that no workers were trapped under the rubble of the explosion, and all those who were underneath have been accounted for.

The rescue work has ceased, and all the injured have been sent to the nearest hospitals in the capital.

According to a statement released by the Ministry of Defense, a judicial and administrative investigation has been launched into the incident.
