Regarding birds, I stumbled upon this by accident, but it reduced 90% of bird-eaten fruit:
Provide clean water within 20 feet. I discovered that the birds were going after the berries for their water content during dry spells. I left a trash can lid with water close by, and magically the fruit were left alone. It wasn't 100% safe like a net, but darn near for zero cost.

Cheers for the video! Much appreciated. Also, I just called my mom and told her that I completed a Masterclass. She was very very proud of me.

I use red painted rocks in my strawberry patch to great success. I painted a whole bag of river rock, 355 rocks in a 14 foot by 18 foot bed and the birds and squirrels are both put off! I also keep a large mint plant in there and that keeps the squirrels and rats at bay. Right now I am reorganizing things and the rocks and mint plants are displaced. The squirrels are getting in there now. I need to finish so I can get everything back in place! I have actually seen both squirrels and birds disappointed by a red rock in the strawberry patch. 🍓

I really enjoy these longer more in-depth masterclass videos! Very informative and in one package start to finish. Plus you are very entertaining so it's nice to get the longer videos.

Ours came from 2 cheap hanging pots from Lowes about 4 years ago, 3 in each pot and they are hundreds of plants now and produce every season, they just get real slow in the cold.

My parents and I grew raspberries last year, and I had heard about painting rocks. It really works! Do it a month before fruit even begins to show. We had squirrels and racoons, and birds chip at the rocks. We started with 9 small red rocks, and by the end of summer there was only two left on our deck, but we enjoyed all our raspberries. If you're growing in raised beds, maybe have an elevated place where you can place the rocks where animals can see it. If not, again, place the rocks VERY early BEFORE the fruits even start. Our only issue were Japanese beetles which ate the leaves, but left our fruit alone. Cheers from /Canada

Last year was my most successful year with my one strawberry plant. This year I'm growing more. I'm very lucky with regards to slugs and snails as I have a hedgehog (sometimes he brings a girlfriend and even more incredible, they brought the babies as well) They do a wonderful job of clearing the slimey critters.

Great Video! I tried the trick which the painted stones last years and it worked great! Just be sure to place them before your strawberries turn red. When they get a taste, they won't be fooled so easily!

I added onions and Borage to my strawberry bed last year. The onions were my best ever and the strawberries tasted amazing. I can't get straw where I live but lawn thatch has worked very well, and it's free, but I applied it too early, so thank you for the tip to wait😊

Brilliant, thanks for saying what that little grub was, I’ve had about 30 or so, wasn’t sure what they were 👍🏻 I put them on the bird feeder and they didn’t last long

You are so thorough with every part of teaching about a plant. I grow strawberries well because of you. Thank you so so much.❤🍓

Thank you for the reminder to plant strawberries alongside garlic. I have just ordered 18 bare root strawberries. I may plant some in pots, too. I have one hugelkultur bed already planted with strawberries, and this was a success last summer, with crushed seashells around the plants to keep off the slugs.
