Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday hailed the BJP-led Centre's decision to implement the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019. He said the Prime Minister has honoured Hindu, Buddhist, Jain, and Sikh refugees by giving them citizenship through CAA.
"They felt insulted in their own country when they were not granted citizenship," he said, adding that PM Modi honoured Hindu, Buddhist, Jain and Sikh refugees by granting them citizenship through the CAA.
Shah's remarks came at a BJP social media volunteers' meeting in Hyderabad where he also targeted the Congress regime for opposing the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) due to appeasement and vote-bank politics.
Shah said that lakhs and crores of people had come to the country from Pakistan and Bangladesh but had not been granted citizenship. He hit out at the Congress party for "talking about communities, but not doing enough for them. He said it was the BJP government that banned the instant triple talaq, preventing atrocities against "Muslim mothers and daughters" and abrogated the contentious Article 370.
The Centre implemented CAA and with this, the government will now start granting citizenship to persecuted non-Muslim migrants -- Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, Parsis and Christians -- from the three countries.
