Laser Diffraction and Interference (Q2, Q4, Q5) [6C10.12, 6D10.11, 6C20.30]

A laser is directed at an adjustable single slit and then a pinhole and the resulting diffraction patterns can be seen on a screen.

A laser directed at two slits spaced closely next to each other creates an interference pattern within the diffraction pattern. Shining lasers of different wavelength light shows how the wavelength affects the interference and diffraction patterns.

Thank you for putting this on youtube. It really helped me. Appreciate it.

This is by far the best display of the slit experiments. The only weakness was that the pinhole experiment was only shown with one size pinhole, whereas at the very least they should have shown the control dot without any pinhole.

If you assume the red laser is He-Ne at 632.8 nm wavelength, you can use the double slit diffraction equation to estimate the wavelength of the orange and green lasers. I got 514 nm for the green laser and 610 nm for orange.

Wow! MIT is the best. I have watched many of your videos, all excellent. Not a word was spoken, but a ton of info was given and made understandable to the average person. Thank you.

But last one is diffraction, inside the diffraction peak interference pattern are visible, and in interference all dark and white fringes are of equal size. I am confusing with last one.

And what happens when you use a polarized laser in a direction that is perpndicular to the slit

Does the green pattern looks shorter in the middle because of the shorter wavelength?

Excellent presentation in the far field scenario. Can you make one for the near field as well please?

The single slit seems to show interference pattern to, is that supposed to happen? Why?

When we do a single slit experiment with white light you get a diffraction grating (a colored sprectra is observed simetrically on both sides of a central white band. If white light is composed of waves of different lengths: why the longest (less energy) waves appear always in the periphery whereas shortest (more energy) in the centre?

Im a little confused I thought it was only supposed to have two areas of light intensity when the double slit is observed but here I'm seeing a diffraction pattern thats only supposed to happen when there is no observer.

I did this at home with all my lasers. Got the same result it was crazy

Why intensities are different in double slit expmt??

So, is the wave-particle duality debunked?
