Sony A9 - Is it a true Pro Option??

Here we are, a year and a half later, no mirrorless camera comes close to this. Sony A9 with 400mm f2.8 is unbeatable. Lens selection for Sony mirrorless is also unmatched.

I am pretty excited about the "s" version of this camera. It may have 10-bit or 12-bit video going internally depending on how different the retool might be.

Totally glad there is a BNC connector, because we might see timecode sync in the future.

I am seriously wondering if they are achieving the 20fps with no black out by actually shooting video then chopping it up.

This is the first video on the A9 that I have watched. I respect you reviews and teaching.

But what is the write speed? I do a 5 second burst at 11 fps with my A77ll and it takes forever for it to write that I end up missing a few more is a major problem. With the Nikon D5 you can shoot for 15 seconds at 12 fps, take your finger off the shutter release for 1 or 2 seconds, and do it all over again - you don't miss anything..

I think everyone should give Sony some time and pretty soon they'll have some lenses launched like what Nikon and Canon have.

in your opinion whats the main advantage of having native lenses versus getting a metabones and using canon lenses. is it that the autofocus would not be compatible?

The pro service is the biggest "Pro" step that they made here. Dual SD cards are nice. Also does this have a touch screen? I head if conflicting info on this.

This is only the 4th A9 video I have watched it. I am a Gh4, 5DM3, Red, Alexa and BM user. I am also a Drone Pilot and like the weight for drones. Very good video man. Getting to the point and you discuss things that actually matter. THANKS

Hehe honestly Matt I have watched four videos so far about the A9 announcement before seeing your video this morning! But that's okay because I watch just a few trusted photographers from varying backgrounds and various opinions. I like to hear their different takes on things and different approaches, and yours is definitely one that I trust! :)

1st a9 video for me. Might watch Tony Northrup, but his gentle soothing voice often sends me to sleep.
One thing, when people talk about battery life with Sony cameras, a lot depends on how you use the EVF. I have seen people chimp at the back screen on an A7. Totally missing one of the main advantages of EVF. I don't get the clamour for touchscreen either, when you can do it all at eye level through the EVF. I have an a77ii, and I keep the screen folded away most of the time, unless I have to show shots to clients that I have not yet WiFi transfered to my phone for that purpose.
Battery life is great, although it is not the same battery as the E-mount system tends to use.

For question one: this is the first vid I am watching and also the last until proper full tests come out. I really like how you give your opinion in a completely neutral way with addressing the youth of the Sony FF system. Your description of "Sony lovers", "Sony users" and "Sony haters" also hits the spot perfectly. I personally love the system, but currently the price of lenses is keeping me away from a full change. This pro(?) camera is not in my budget, but I enjoy the way Sony is pushing the envelope of what can be done. Please do a review of the A9 when it is out (even though you already said you won't buy one).

Does Sony a9 record 4k videos of *banding* 8bit 4:2:2 or *NO banding* 10 bit 4:2:2?

People, receiving this camera early were reporting AMAZING power performance, being able to take up to incredibly 4000 shots in one single battery charge. So clearly there's lots of improvements on firmware PWMs and actual power draw of each component inside the camera.

Your spot on as usual.. I think you should do a new series of tests with this camera.. You should go head to head with a 1dx or d5 and have a Pro vs Shmo battle.. you can be the pro and have Jarid Poland Fro as the SHMO.. Or I can be the Shmo...
