I'm looking for info on a false reverse gable that can be built just on the roof over my front door for curb appeal to make an extremely plain hip roof look better. I'm replacing bad fascia and soffit now before the roof is replaced but I'm not comfortable cutting into the roof.

Great video! If the pitch was different from the front roof to the main roof would the rafter measurement change or be the same? Say a 5/12 front roof tying into a 4/12 (the 4-1/2" you mentioned)

Do you have a video on a porch like this with the roof plane attached to only the wall? So that the porch roof peak is below the overhang of the roof above it.

I want to do this to my house. I already have a deck and want to bring an open gable roof extension that would attach like this to my current roof. I called an architect out to help with plans. She seemed to complicate the process for me. I just want plans and ideas to the basics as you have done. I’m in Alaska and have make sure the main posts are not going to move with the frost line independent of the house.

Finding someone to draw plans is turning into a headache as an otherwise do it yourselfer.

What if your house already has this covered porch coming out, and you want to extend it out to make a wraparound porch? How would you go about doing that?

Thanks Greg, as always, very informative. I have a question about the gable end of a porch.... if I use engineered scissor trusses to create a vaulted ceiling porch (with an open end), do I need to use a massive beam / header across the gable end or is using the trusses sufficient?
