Firstly there are no Sgts in the Blues and royals or life guard's only cpls, the soldier in the video is an Lance corporal of horse, that's the equivalent of a full corporal, even for someone like myself who served in the guard's there rank structure was confusing. During Victorian times the Queen changed the ranks of the household division that's why u never see a foot guard with only one stripe Lance corporal's have two full corporal's have three and are known as Lance Sergeant's. The story I heard about the mounted regs were Queen Victoria said that Sergeant was french for servant and they are servants to man so it was changed to corporal which was closer to companion, not sure how much truth there is in that.

He is the Staff Sergeant in charge of the shift. They have 3 or four of them. Not unusual to see them.
