I found it interesting how modern dictatorships are able to successfully disguise themselves as democracies. Thinking more deeply about this and comparing it to my life and perception of modern day politics, it makes sense as many of my generation are quickly convinced by politicians that are all talk with actions unaligned with the image they try to promote.

Some people argue that the reason why certain citizens accept autocrats is not only because they are being lied to. They argue that most people actually know the things their ruler are doing but decide to remain under the same government because they are actually receiving what they really need (stable incomes, good education, ...).
