I totally appreciate his honesty here. As someone in recovery from alcohol addiction, the struggle is real. You do things that impact your social, work and family life that you would never do if sober. Keep on the path James.

I feel like Franco really just needed someone to talk to some counseling and I’m happy to see him actually feel and talk his feelings out I still love you man!

I appreciate James speaking out in an honest matter regardless of the controversy. I truly miss his creative work and hope he gets out there again.

He seems like a nice guy that got mixed up with the same ego desires that most famous people battle with.
I wish him all the best.

This feels extremely vulnerable and real. I think a lot of people in James' position would have given in to the same cycle of gratification seeking.

James is contributing to an important conversation on addiction to non-substance rewards- Sexual gratification, attention, praise- all things that are being comodofied and sold to us in the form of social media.

First golden fact: we are all fucked up. We got to work on ourselves, hopefully before we cause too much harm. This stinks of truth.

I watched all 7 videos and then went and found the podcast in its entirety. I have always been one to read something—anything—and go find it multiple other places so I could weed out the bias and be informed. Most importantly, I would watch the person or group in interviews before and after, or look at their work. I have a pretty good radar for people and bullshit; I can see it all like a map, and James, Casey Affleck, Mel Gibson, Ben Affleck, and Joaquin Phoenix were the only “controversy” to subvert that narrative. I always waited to hear what they had to say. It didn’t matter what it was, including the huge topics that were prominent over the last 5 or so years. I’m not just referring to the “Me Too” Movement, either; anything that was seen as controversial. I believe it is only fair for everyone to have a voice. I was a functioning painkiller and heroin addict for 10 years, from high school through grad school and my employment after. When I finally decided—me, not anyone else, me—decided to get clean, and shut up, humbled myself, and admitted that I didn’t have all the answers, the me that came out on the other side had a clear, understood, concise, and honest response. This is what I waited for. It was truly only fair to the people I hurt. I met Mel Gibson during his controversy in Rockland County and he was the warmest person I have ever met. I told him I loved Get the Gringo and he stood there and asked about me, my life, what I was doing, what I wanted to do, …he was a guy, a nice guy…he talked about what had gone on in his life. I told him about my addiction, snd he acted like he truly cared. He wanted me to get help, snd showed me that I had things going on for me, and that there are no old junkies. He gave me the most important thing another person can give you, and that was his time. His honest thoughts. Despite what went on, Mel Gibson finished my opinion of his “thing”. That was my “watching him in interviews after.” This was James Franco’s and it was articulate, honest, raw and real. The loudest voices often write the narrative and the ending. I’m excusing no omens behavior regarding anything, but I am asking everyone to be informed before crucifying someone. Go up to that YouTube search bar and type “Robert Downey Jr Mel Gibson” and watch RDJ accept the award from him and listen to what he says.

James has been through so much in his life . His father began as being his enemy, which stuck in his mind. Then, by the time he was ready to release that demon, it was re0laced by real world assaults by media, the moguls, the power brokers in Hollywood, the vipers and the paparazzi sleaze .. I’m glad t9 see him doing better and letting his father’s early life rejection of his dream die along with his father . As a man when my father died, for a long time I could not let go of the torture, the harassment, the beatings and calling me ‘possessed by the devil ‘ and ‘your body is the work of the devil ‘ .. it haunted me and destroyed my sanity . I had many decades of nightmares of the Christian’s coming to burn me alive on my lawn . Then he died and I was so happy to see him go . The last 10 yrs of his life he tried to suck up to me after mom died . I let him be around my family, but I bided my time. I could only hope time would take him early . I’ve spent 47 years in therapy and I am still not able to walk onto my front lawn without fear and terror of the evangelical Taliban watching me . I’m able to be with myself and my partner . His dementia is taking him away from me. But I love the moments when he allows me to take care of his needs . He’s such a kind man compared to my father . I’m so glad I will be dying knowing love in my life within the next 10 years. People are horrible ! Be kind to yourself and treat others as if they were kind people at some point, maybe now they’ve just been ruined by religion, politics and media madness

My female friend told me when my husband s dad died from ALS or was diagnosed had 2 years, don’t get surprised if he gets weird, her husband did for a few years. It was a very helpful piece of advice. Mens dealing with dads death. Its a death and rebirth. Good for you James growth. Something stopped and had to die and wake you up to grow.

James should have been in no way home. And dude, u dont have to explain yourself to anyone. everyone is on a journey. we now live in a world where accountability is like kryptonite. the people pointing fingers at you are no less accountable than u because they are adults too .

Just because every magazine and TV show portrays an image of celebrity, doesn't make it true. Think if this was you in their shoes, I know I would fail unless my support system was rock solid, and that includes my mental health. We're all human, we're not all actors

He has talent and yes he’s done some shit but if he can correct his wrong then what is the problem?? There’s so many things just as bad or worse that people have done that’s been forgiven. He’s gotta correct it somehow.
