What people need to understand is that we wore historical clothing for a reason. It wasn’t because it looked cool, it was functional given the environment. Cloaks are great in all but summer weather: depending on the material they can block rain, wind, snow, extreme sun, they can be worn in a variety of ways and they can deal with a variety of conditions. Sashes can double as pockets, belts, and a means of bundling supplies on your back depending on how you wear them. And in a modern self-defense situation it does pay off to wear something like padded or slash-proof clothing. Light shoes and moccasins are also great for being on your feet for long periods and leather shoes will mold themselves to your feet over time making them more comfortable as you break them in. If you look at the environment and culture surrounding historical clothing you see that it is often highly functional and is still useful in a modern setting.
