Donald Trump has pledged that the United States would “take other countries’ jobs” if he returned to the White House as president.

At a campaign rally in Savannah, Georgia, Trump promised a "manufacturing renaissance", reiterating his pledge to punish American companies that manufactured outside the US, and slap large tariffs on foreign-made goods to protect US industries.

“Under my plan, American workers will no longer be worried about losing your jobs to foreign nations. Instead, foreign nations will be worried about losing their jobs to America,” Trump said.

Vice-President Kamala Harris is expected to unveil a new set of economic proposals in a major speech in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on Wednesday.

His simple-minded plan to maintain domestic demand for those expensive, US-made products is to raise the prices of imported goods even higher with tariffs ... so the US consumer will be screwed every which way, and the workers in these US factories will constantly be at war with their employer, who'll be trying to reduce costs by paying them less or squeezing more work out of them and firing everyone they can get away with, so product quality will almost certainly fall. Meanwhile exports of US products will nosedive because they're so much more expensive and so much crappier than competing foreign products built at lower cost. Super genius.
