Poly Guitar Stripped & Refinished In Nitro

Does a Nitro vs. Poly guitar have a difference in sound?

We explore this question with my 1990's Eric Clapton Strat, starting with the original polyurethane finish and then refinishing the same guitar in nitrocellulose lacquer.

Very nice, the color grading feels like something from a movie or documentary. So crisp! I always wanted to strip off the poly on my strat to nitro refinish tho I think I had a thicker poly coat

I had a nitro finished HWY 1 strat in 3 color sunburst around 2008, sold it to a pawn shop when the recession hit and I lost my job. I hated myself for years after that. Only getting over it just now.

I tried to remove the finish on an 90s Ibanez electric guitar with a heat gun and scraper and it was no good. The stuff stayed put until it burned.

Did you have to grain fill after using the heat gun to strip the poly? Might sound like a stupid question but I'm wondering if the heat treatment lifts grain filler up with the finish?.. I'm going after a perfectly glossy refinish

Now you'd have a real strat if you'd added a Nady wireless, original Floyd, routed a 9v cavity for your sustainac & some remote effects switches. Such a missed opportunity.

You should also use a a product called “” prime vibe “ it transducers you put on guitar than play music on a loop. Put vibrations on the guitar . It really work s . Eddie Van Halen says he keeps his guitar s in front of speakers. All the time to enhance wood . Robert Godin from Godin guitar says to do this also .

I don’t believe it makes a difference. Sound is the electronic components and 99% speakers.

All finishes should be nitro. Poly plastic finishes are awful
