Slavery isn't taught at school? Huh? Guess I went to a foreign school.

I find it kind of offensive that you say we don't teach about slavery in Dutch schools. If you ask any Dutchman they will disagree. It is taught very thoroughly and isn't at all ignored, like you seem to put it. The opinions on Zwarte Piet are divided, but I know for sure that the Dutch don't ignore their black pages in history. We accept them and learn from them. It would be nice if you quit calling basically our school system basically racist, or at least saying it ignores horrible things the dutch did.

Saint nicolas is not the dutch version of santa claus but santa claus is the american version of saint nicolas. ( basically coca cola created santa claus based on saint nicolas and it became popular in the us.)

"The Dutch history in slavery is seldom taught in schools".... that is complete and utterly incorrect. It is required to know about the VOC and WIC (and the northern wheat trade) to pass history in high school. It is impossible not to get thaught about the Dutch slavery history if you attend high school for the full duration.

It isn't called Clockwork Orange here at all. It's called Oranje, which translates to the colour orange

The funny thing about the commotion about Black Pete is how many people just ignore the fact that Saint Nicholas is very well known for sticking up for supressed people.
Many legends of Saint Nicholas have him defending the poor, the young, even prostitutes. And of course he also didn't approve racism and therefore did not condone slavery.
At the introduction of Black Pete he was called a "knecht" which is a Dutch word for a servant that is being employed and paid.
On the black face make up. The Netherlands do not have a culture of using black face make up for ridiculing colored people. It is not used in Dutch performances like it's used in the USA.

Frits Goldschmeding is the richest man in the Netherlands, but not the richest person. That is Charlene de Carvalho-Heineken, the daughter of the founder of Heineken beer, with €12, 5 billion. So why do you address the number two?
