Auro 11.1 / Auro 3D is the Real Immersive Sound Format.

While the Auro 11.1 system does offer an upmix option for alternative content using the most advanced algorythms in the market, Auro 11.1 titles advertised on the barco website are natively recorded and produced in 11.1 and are not in any way simulated or derived.

THX is a certification quality check for cinemas. It does not only apply to audio surround systems. Cinemas must have THX certified projection, cables and among many other strict criteria before a theater hall is given the THX stamp of approval.

THX has done many things over the years to improve the cinema experience for audiences worldwide. Most theaters today are build to THX specs for acoustics and system performance even though they may not have “certification”. This is testament to the great work THX did going back as far as the 1980’s to make the cinema experience a premium entertainment experience. Auro 11.1 is also aimed at providing the most natural premium cinema sound experience and we hope to bring it to a theater near you!

I doubt channels 8, 9, 10 and 11 are discrete channels. They are probably using technology similar to Audyssey DSX, DTS Neo X which are simulated surround channels.

I really enjoyed your explanatory video. Pardon my ignorance, but what advantages/disadvantages does Auro-3d (or is it Auro 11.1?) have over "higher order ambisonics" setup? Other than an obviously much larger sweet spot for a theater full of people. Additionally, would Barco ever be pursing a higher order ambisonics type delivery for surround material?

Im sure it sounds amazing but Dolby Atmos seems like it would sound a lot better. Dolby Atmos supports up to 64 Discrete speakers. damn!!!
I cant say anything until i've heard it for myself.
