We’ll review what a star schema is and define dimensions, facts, keys, and relationships. We’ll then define different table structures such as Role Playing, Slowly Changing, and Degenerate Dimensions, plus Factless Fact tables.

This three-part series looks at design decisions to create well optimized data models. It is aimed at users primarily from a business or Excel background who work with Power BI. Attendees are expected to have basic knowledge and experience creating datasets and knowledge of using Power BI.

Thanks a ton for this! Really helps.

Questions: how come you point so strongly towards not using values directly from the fact table? I do this often for say a simple distinct count of for instance companies or any other unique_ID basically. What are the risks involved?
