Unbiased, candid review of ARION SCH-1 STEREO CHORUS guitar pedal. This is often sought after as a
simulator for the leslie rotary speaker. Listen to this review and give me your thoughts.

Don't worry about the plastic cases on Arion pedals.
I ran an Arion Stage Tuner and an Octaver for over Twenty years with no breakages (apart from the battery covers - they need taping),
Till have them, And a Stereo Chorus SCH-1 (battery cover doesn't need tape - yet)
The tuner gets used more for Buffered Y-splitting these days though.

I have owned several, currently have two early grey cased examples. The knobs fall off, the battery covers get lost. They fail- circuit boards seem weak, and the way they are attached in the case- no 10mm nuts on the Jack sockets or round the knobs to secure them properly doesn’t protect them very well. But they sound so good. The tone control circuit, from the Big Muff, allows the pedal to sound more like a real Leslie, rather than a trebly chorus. If you want real Leslie sounds on a budget, the TC Electronic Vibramate is even better than the SCH 1. The SCH Z is not worth the time imho, as it sounds more like a chorus pedal trying to be a Leslie. Oh and I had a Leslie 16 cab for a while, and ABed the SCH 1 with it. Sound was almost identical, ambiance in the room wasn’t though.

I used one of these in the early-80s to get a Leslie-type tone. I remember it being a great chorus pedal. Irl, it sounded very Leslie-like, and we didn’t have Leslie simulators 40 years ago. Cheers, Max Power 😁👍

Why your unit don't have noise? I love mine but have a litle of noise

Cool! I have a Zakk Wylde chorus pedal and a Yamaha spx90. Different sounds but I'd recommend both (especially the SPX for 80's sounds).

I bought one of these used around 1986 and have used it ever since. I worry a little about the plastic case but I'm careful with it and always go gentle on it. In stereo it sounds great and I like to use it with synthesizers in stereo. Tried lots of chorus pedals ever since but always come back to this one. JHS based his Emperor chorus on this, but I haven't tried it yet. The JHS has stereo output, but you need a TRS splitter cable to use it, which is automatically a PITA compare to the Arion, but I'll try one out someday and see how it matches up.

Great review Reid as always, but I don't really like what the pedal sounds like.
I'll keep my Boss Chorus.

If it's good enough for David Grissom it's good enough for me.
