Definately. And the development team seem keen to make it easy to mod which I really think will help make that game a new classic.

Whereas for me Fallout 3 was the most Fallout since 1. I do agree that some things were far better in New Vegas, but not the key things that made Fallout great for me. But this is how it should be, everyone has their own feeling about what makes Fallout great. And they are all great games that gave me literally thousands of hours of fun :-)

Fallout 3 is one of my all time favourite games actually. The story, the atmosphere, the music, loved it all.

Whereas I found it to encapsulate what I loved about Fallout 1 and did not mind the evolution of certain groups or small discrepancies. Of all the games New Vegas was the one that strayed from what made Fallout great FOR ME. But I still loved that game anyway :-)

I don't think of it as an improvement over the first 2, just a continuation for a good formula. But then I also loved New Vegas too. For different reasons though. I like New Vegas more the way I like Bethesda games. I just never felt like the Vault Dweller :) Hopefully Fallout 4 will keep the formula used in Fallout 1, 2 and 3 but take the factions/humor/side quests from 1, 2 and New Vegas.

Oh and the music from Fallout 3. That was awesome.

Each to his own I guess. I find the Fallout universe to be one of the most fascinating backdrops for a game ever devised. I also think it is just as lore rich as TES.

And what I mean is that the fallout would have settled. It might still be radioactive, but it would not still be in the atmoshere unless some odd weather pattern kept it up there for 200 years.

I am afraid I am not someone who cares very much about what I was 'supposed' to get out of a game, nor what someone else considers being 'a real fan' etc. What I care about is how much fun a game was for me :) I am explaining why I personally prefer 1, 2 and 3 to FNV, but I am not suggesting my preference is the 'real way' or 'intended' way.

The intent of the developers only really interests me in as far as it pertains to legality of modding and distribution of material from the game.

well that's not entirely true the Final Fantasy series is an RPG, and you're choices have little affect on the games outcome, an RPG isn't always choice biased, but always about telling someones story through their eyes, playing the roll of them plus there are about a thousand fan movies based of of TES, Fallout, Might and Magic, Ect. and it doesn't end there, D&D has movies with a good following and Fan Fict is very popular even if it's biased on an RPG, just sayin don't knock it til ya try it

I think they are using the Skyrim engine for Fallout 4. We know two games were planned to use that engine, and many of us are working on the assumption Fallout 4 is the second. It would not make sense to go back to the Oblivion engine.

So very true. That DLC was worth its price just for the first conversation you have :-)

The New Vegas main quest annoyed me because it was so un-fallout and also had only one conclusion that did not make you a chump or a psychopath :) Fallout 1, 2 and 3 all shared the same formula (copied from the Hobbit and LOTR actually):

1- Naive youngster brought up in an isolated community (the womb).
2- Leaves on a noble quest and ventures into the unknown outside through a symbolic birthing canal (the birth).
3- Learns the ways of the wasteland (childhood)
etc.

And then the endings in FNV just bother me because I always play clever, non-psychopath characters and that gives only 1 option that doesn't leave you feeling a right doofus :)

1. NCR : Not exactly good, but probably all in all the only vaguely good option.
2. Yes Man : That the 'I am a sucker' option obviously.
3. House : Genocidal maniac option.
4. Legion : Psychotic sexual deviant option.

Whilst Fallout 3 was a bit too Good vs Evil, but in the end FNV main quest felt just as bad.

Good stuff. I just started Fallout 3 and already I'm looking forward to New Vegas. Probably wouldn't have picked them up if it hadn't been for your lets play and mod vids. Thanks Gopher! :)

His tweet was aimed at Fallout fans and specifically references his Three Dog character from Fallout 3.

Right. Benny just did not really spark any emotion in me beyond amusement really. If he had actually been useful to me or helped me somehow I would have forgiven him easily. Whereas destroying the Enclave was personal, something that drove me. This was also true of getting the water chip in 1 and the GECK in 2.

hehe, i was browsing around for information about fallout 4 a few weeks back. Got that feeling the new title should be coming within the coming year, or the one there after.
Love the fallout series <3

The FNV ncr ending was well done, and the Mr House ending was ok if you didnt mind being a genocidal maniac :-) The Yes Man ending made me want to pull my hair out. But then endings were not this issue with the main quests for me. It was the ironic fact that the main quest started like a typical Bethesda game, rather than a fallout game.... which blew my mind. How could the nonBethesda game be more Bethesda than the Bethesda one? :-)

Fallout New Vegas on the other hand went with a more typical Bethesda start (ironic considering it was not Bethesda), with a complete blank slate of a character with no home, no family, no friends etc. If Doc Mitchell had been a sheriff instead of a doctor and you were sitting in a cell, the start would have literally been Morrowind or Oblivion.

And the entire start felt contrived because honestly every time I play I always wonder why I leave Goodsprings.

Agreed, and the fast-travel doesn't make much sense either, but that could have been fixed. Do you remember the spells effects "mark" and "recall" from TES III: Morrowind? They could have changed the way Skyrim and Oblivion worked by simply saying that new locations that you discover are marked and to fast-travel you cast recall and teleport there.
