This year I went from full suspension trail riding, to mostly gravel grinding on my hardtail 29er and fat biking, which is tons of fun in the dirt. Bought a Surly I’ve Cream Truck and it’s a real trail capable bike. Need to add a dropper and call it good! More vids on it to come!

In regards to the Shimano SLX drivetrain, it's what I hope to use for a custom built hardtail mountain bike soon. I want a budget friendly, but reliable groupset. I ran the same Shimano LX groupset for 20 yrs with no issues.

Riding ebikes definitely causes some to not want to ride regular bicycles anymore, which is why, in general, I discourage most riders from riding emtb’s. Agree with SLX 12 speed being a great piece of tech for 2019.

E-bike rationalization for those that don’t have time to ride regularly and most likely not fit enough to maximize their pleasure on a mountain bike. Personally I look at the other side of the coin, if you will. I make time to ride regularly, regardless of my obligations. This may take it toll on other aspects of my life, but I’m willing to deal with that. In 2019 I’ve increased my bike time and in 2020 I plan to increase my bike time and do some epic multi day gravel riding in the Philippines.

12h in a saddle and my shoes are the least of my worries. Any suggestions for a good saddle or pant liner (or combo) that can see me to the end of at least 4h in relative comfort?

Matthew's statement on eMTB is dead-on as far as I'm concerned. If I buy an e-bike, it will be an eMTB. Road riding is almost without the sudden need for explosive power, unless you're racing in heated sprints, as in crit racing. I don't see crit racing being friendly to e-bikes anytime soon.
