That shortcut doesn't restart the graphic drivers, it's closer to virtually unplugging and re-plugging the monitors (discards the desktop surface buffer and recreates the allocation from DWM).
You can easily test it by using it with a game open the screen will flash black but go back to working, the game would have crashed if the drivers actually restarted.
It didn't work for me during the latest nvidia driver fiasco but can be helpful if you get a random black screen.

I'm a MCSE and have known about this trick for a while, maybe 3 or 4 years.. But, like me, you will forget to use it.. Its like CTR;-SHIFT-ESC.. I always press CTRL-SHIFT-DEL - It's been a way to fix lock-ups forever - so I forget the shortcuts

This is why DDU still exists.

Don't do the the fast options in DDU, clean the registry properly when those issues persists.
(Yes do all the reboots.)

Old persistent files and reg entries are often what causes those driver issues in the first place.

If you'r looking for a quick fix with odd sucsess rate just use the driver Installers so called "Clean Install" option.

Oh. and pause windows update untill you got the driver re-installed when using DDU.
You don't want to install a protected Windows display driver and 1'st party display driver the same session if you can avoid it.

From what ive heard, this did not work for many people but a reboot did. Cant say from experience tho as i just rebooted when i got nvidia driver update black screen

I definitely needed this at some point in the last 3 years. I had so many weird issues with my computer that were often the GPU being silly. I got pretty much all of those old issues fixed at this point but hopefully I remember this trick in the event I need to use it later.
