Yeah, this happens way too often. Sometimes its just a spot here or there that you can scrape. Moral of story, quality matters to us installers too!

I just finished a job they bought tile at Lowe’s. Had to send it back and order real tile for the floor. Some of the tiles were 1/8 inch larger than others . Doesn’t work well with 1/8 in grout joints.

You still use it. Put the tile in a bucket of water and they pop right off

Big box stores 9/10 times are always junk. They are rarely square and the finish will dull within a few months. I always tell customers upfront, if you buy your tile from home cheapo or Lowe’s or any other cheap box store your price is going up.

out of the last 10 tile jobs I've done, 3 were with cheap tile customers supplied and they also didn't want to pay for proper wall prep :( I will do it and make it look good but not be happy with myself or the job even though the customer is. Takes a lot of dicking around to make cheap tile look good!

I'd say that's a new policy and contract labor line for customer-purchased tile, especially if it's from Home Depot or Lowe's.

Is it just me but not even regarding cheaper products it seems like there's a lot more defects making it thru quality control, I'm good about catching the unusable ones but it frustrating having to go back and exchange for new.

I call cheap tile dimensionally challenged. Far too often I find they are not consistent on size and can throw off your layout. Spend the money folks, tile is a forever art work. Why my personal home is an amazing showpiece of what good tile can do for your equity and home looks.

I always soak them in a bucket of warm water and they fall right off the Matt then lay them

I see a lot of tiles shaped like bananas, the manufacturer believes that they are within tolerance. 😂

Soak them in water in the bathtub for 24 hours then it comes off. I’ve even hit it with my pressure washer and takes about 5 mins
