It's an End of the Line Bonus video! As I've been to Mill Hill East before, when doing the "Least Used Stations" series on the Tube, but I thought that there might just be a way of doing it again, even it it was strangely familiar ....

Bumped into Geoff in Edinburgh on the weekend. You'll be pleased to know he's a nice guy in real life too.

Geoff you're a very brave man rolling around the floor on the tube especially with some of the things I've seen happen on them!! 😯

I had real de ja vu watching this… and I’ve just rewatched the least used northern line video - you are a clever man, Geoff Marshall! That must have been tricky to do!

Jay Foreman's video in his Unfinished London series is a great companion video for this all about the history of this line, if anyone is looking for something else after this.

Once upon a time (at least until the late '60s, but possibly later), the road side of the station had a fine glass canopy emblazoned "LNER". Although the passenger service (steam-hauled) beyond Mill Hill East ceased in 1939, goods traffic (mostly for coal merchants) continued until the building of the M1 caused closure of the line. Also, the gasworks (the other side of the tracks from the road) was an unforgettable smell when the wind was in the wrong direction (which was most of the time)!

Having driven trains over many years to Mill Hill East as I was a driver out of Golders Green Depot in the 70's and 80's. The biggest problem was the high elevation on the viaduct during hot sunny days the rails were liable to buckle! They had to station a PWay man to keep check. During the hot summer of 76 we were on 15mph speed restriction down the line.

So even here Geoff didn't miss the CAR PARK for our Bingo sheet...
What a genius... 😅😅😉

Thanks for making another video in the series Geoff!

Mill Hill East is one of just three tube stations not to have ticket barriers!

The best thing about the viaduct is the whole discovering it for for the first time drunkenly stumbling between Mill Hill East and Finchley Central after missing the last train. You go round the corner of an average residential road and suddenly there is an enormous brick viaduct in gloomy moonlight towering above you. You might wonder for a second if you are in the right place or even the right century.

Hi Geoff. It was a real pleasure bumping into you on the canal last week, and yes my partner Stu was rather disappointed he'd not been able to join us that day.. Thanks again for taking the time to stop and sign my book, rather ironic I'd bought it that day.. Great video as always.
All the best Emma and Finley 😊

In the 60's we would travel regularly to Mill Hill East from South London to visit an aunt. She lived in Inglis Barracks (her husband was in the Army) across from Finchley Golf Club. It really felt like we had traveled to the ends of the Earth!

Mill Hill East has no barriers and is the only LU Station to have a remaining wooden platform (now covered with a non-slip surface - elf ’n’ safety).

Dear Mr Wondering Geoff, there is a nice walk along the Dollis brook, The Dollis Valley greenwalk, from Mill Hill East. I’d expect you might like that.

I grew up in Mill Hill. Always loved this odd little station

Actually, there is still no direct service from Mill Hill East to central London after 23:15 every late night with trains from Mill Hill East either terminating at East Finchley or Finchley Central.

1:04 ‘only one of four…’. What are the four single-platforms? Mill Hill East, Chesham, Kensington (Olympia) and East Acton?
