Dmitri Alperovich, cybersecurity expert and co-founder of Crowdstrike, talks with Rachel Maddow about the options the United States has for responding more aggressively to cyber attacks, both in terms of the attackers and the countries, like Russia, that offer them safe harbor even if they're not directly part of the hacking operations.

It's like the YouTubers who show us how they scam the scammers.
We need to do the same to these hackers.

How much of the ransom money ends up as dark money in backing the republican autocracy machine ?

A while back Russia tested cutting themselves off the internet. We should just do that.

It's at least 20 years past the time when we should have gotten tough on these cyber criminals. DO IT NOW. It's my opinion that somebody in the Russian government is getting a cut.

Bullies always try to intimidate their victims by warning of consequences if they resist. Don't fall into that trap.

"If you harbor ransomware criminals you will receive the same offensive treatment they do" should be written into law.

I agree with Dmitri. This kind of war is a lot better than shooting wars.

How about preventing these kinds of cyber attacks before they happen? Just a thought.

The only thing I can think of as to why the US does not fight back against these criminals and their governments is: 1. They are afraid of angering these people or their countries. 2. They don't want to tip their hand of the damage they could actually do. 3. The US is already in their networks and computer systems and does not want to give that position away. 4. What the US actually has is a way to destroy networks and block all foreign IP's and governments so the US can still have the Internet during a wartime scenario. 5. They don't have the ability to hit back and only play defense on these attacks. Why aren't the media networks talking about the hack on the far right internet host out of Seattle, WA?

I’m an artist. I created an “art workshop at the common table.” There are people in power who don’t want to see that art because it doesn’t align with their values. It’s offensive to them. I definitely feel the pressure. The dominant kind of art produced at the table is considered “American Art” or white dominant art. Sure, I present that I’m white, but I’m half Mexican half polish.” My abueltio’s On my mom’s side is from Jalisco and my grandpa on my dad’s side is from somewhere in Poland. I have to do more research there. But that’s to say, Latin American, part European American… Since I present white yet I’m multi-racial, I do experience some political repression. I’m keenly aware of the prejudice against political minority artists like me, minorities who recognize where their family came from as well as where they are from. I’m really not interested in changing and white washing my identity. I value that connection with my family ‘s history. But yeah, the table where the art is done, that’s what’s critical.

We need to have CIA, MI6 and so on send out what is referred to as double O agents in the James Bond novels to neutralize "hackers" around the world.

What I've seen of Russian trolls on this, they stand out like sore thumbs, it would be very wise and easy to tap into their system and use it to our advantage. lots and lots of bugs to get all the information for long term knowledge :-)

Haven't we already lived through his "response" failure with that drone strike?

The US Cyber Response could take over the power distribution in St.Petersburg or Moscow.
