The Raspberry Pi Pico PLC can be built from readily available modules: the Raspberry Pi Pico Screw Terminal Expansion Board, PC817 opto-isolator module, relay module, and the Buck Step-down Converter Adjustable Power Supply Module. The Raspberry Pi Pico PLC programming software is the OpenPLC Editor. The OpenPLC editor is an open-source automation IDE based on Beremiz IDE with support for ladder diagrams, function block diagrams, structured text, instruction lists, and sequential function blocks, which are PLC programming languages specified in the IEC 61131-3 standard. A simple motor start was programmed for demonstration purposes.

Please not this when transferring the program from open PLC to the Pico board the Pico needs to be in Bootsel Mode before transferring the program from Open PLC to the Pico .To put Pico in Bootsel Mode hold the button on the Pico while connecting it to your computer, it then enters a special mode for uploading new programs called Bootsel mode RP2 Boot: When the Pico is in Bootsel mode, that's how it shows up as "RP2 Boot" in your Device Manager This signifies it's ready to receive new firmware. This is not covered in the otherwise excellent video .After transfer of the program the "RP2 Boot" drive will be removed automatically from Device Manager. This is normal behaviour .

What are the advantages and disadvantages of using this Raspberry PI over say commercial PLC's from say Omron, Siemens etc? . Does it suffer from noise immunity problems when operating an industrial environment ?
