A PROMISING GENERATION OF CENTRAL BACKS
The Elephants' defence has often been seen as lacking but this problem has been solved with the new generation with Emmanuel Agbadou who won at Eupen in Belgium. Yves Dabila who was unstoppable at the Olympics and hopefully will find a new club to play for. Sinaly Diomandรฉ who had a meteoric rise as the 3rd defender of Olympique Lyonnais and made his debut for the Elephants in less than a year. Odilon Kossounou made a name for himself at FC Brugge and is one of the 100 nominees for the Golden Boy award. He has been transferred to Bayer Leverkusen where he will continue his progression in the Bundesliga and Europa League. Eric Bailly and Willy Boly will need to perform well at club level this season if they are to retain their places in the Ivorian national team's defensive line, while the new generation is pushing for Patrice Beaumelle's attention for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, which starts in Cameroon next January.
