Thank you, this really helped me install the chime without labelled wires.

Thank you. I had to replace the chime while installing a Nest doorbell and this was helpful. Tip to anyone else out there who couldn't find their doorbell transformer: I had to take off the breaker box panel to find mine. We tested it with a multimeter to confirm what was coming in and out as well to confirm that it was installed correctly.

My doorbell system is wired very similar to this, but I think the wires might be installed incorrectly on the chime. If I don't have access to all of the wires to see what is going where, is there a way to test the wires to be sure? Primarily I want to make sure the wire from the transformer is going to the Trans connect on the chime.

Is there a "usual" or "normal" place these transformers go in a house (USA)? I hate electrics and really don't want to remove the circuit box cover if I can avoid it.

I am wondering why the doorbell circuit is not protected. On line side the transformer is protected with a circuit breaker, but what is going to happen in case of short circuit on low voltage side? I mean, nobody places any overcurrent protection on low voltage side when connecting the doorbell, and I'm curious why.
