Hi Armand. I work at the VA and nationwide there has been a hiring freeze. Is it common to have back to back years with minimal hiring like we have had in 2024? A lot of departments are seriously understaffed and I couldn't imagine another year like this one.

Ehhh I've heard differently, with hiring authorities, with 300+ jobs applied as a federal employee, they authorities are just to get ahead with being a federal employee 90% of those not open to public need for you to be one or two grade below to successfully be considered.

Then all the other hiring authorities matter and they all probably still have various rankings to hire.

The other 10% that allows a hiring authority to get is rare and you have to be highly specialized to even consider it.

Most OTP jobs take everyone and every person knows that OTP is more difficult bu easier to get ahead with those hiring authorities.

Thank you so much, I will try this … I had an interview with SSA via direct hire but I got the feeling the interviewer was telling me I was over qualified for the entry level position (contact representative) without saying I was over qualified. 😢
