Ellen, with much respect and love, if the light source is coming from the left, then the coffee shadow would also be on the left because the cup would be blocking the light. The coffee highlight would be on the right whereas the highlight on the rest of the cup would be on the left

Ellen..I love your channel. I have always loved art but never thought I was good enough. Because of this pandemic, I found your channel and have been painting with you every day! Mini Monday Madness is my favorite and I prefer the landscapes, probably because they are less difficult for me! Loved this tutorial and your commentary...especially loved it when you mentioned my fave artists Michelangelo and Picasso! Totally agree...seeing Michelangelo’s work in person is something every art lover should see if the are lucky enough...a picture can’t do his works justice
