In this Quick "SCARY" Flashback I re-visit my *old* private tutorial series on Blender 2.49, which I recorded in 2010. My recording equipment and tutorial experience obviously wasn't at its peak back then - I apologize for the quality!

I used to use Blender since around 2.35. This is truly scary stuff. Thanks for posting!

I started learning Blender in earnest just a few months before the 2.5x series became stable enough to use. By about 2.55 or so, I had completely abandoned 2.49.

You know why that window in 2.49 is called the “buttons window”? Because it’s full of blooming buttons! Every time the developers wanted to add a new feature, they would stick some more buttons in here. Texture settings alone were spread across two different panels, and you had to remember where to find what. Things were getting out of hand.

Best. Walk cycle. Ever. ;-) My goodness blender has come a long way in six years.

That gave me so much nostalgia...I remember the days of 2.49, i played around SO much, it was fun, and weirdly, not confusing or intimidating as the atrocious UI suggests. Glad where we're at now though!

I have a pretty janky laptop so I could not use a newer version of blender and I was also getting started so I decided to use 2.49 and when I saw the tutorial I was so happy. Thank you

I recall those versions, but I was still using TrueSpace back then.

This makes me glad that I chose to pick up blender when I did (Whenever 2.74), I think I would've given up for good if it looked like this back then. (Just looks a bit overwhelming)

Your tutorial was fine, but augh! I'm glad I have 2.78!!!! I think I started with 2.1 or so [with many learn-it-all-over-again sessions]. I remember 2.49, and I sure do like my 2.79 better! Some things are pretty similar, but a lot of things are easier.... Happy Halloween, Colin!
