Welcome to Band-Maid! The best hard rock band I have heard in my 58 years on this planet. They don't stick to any one genre and often mix genres in songs. They are extremely diverse and have an extensive back catalogue featuring Punk, Pop-Punk, Hard-Rock, Classic Rock, Metal, Prog, Blues, Jazz, Groove, Rap etc. From face melting 220 bpm punk-prog mayhem to ballads, instrumentals to acoustics they do it all. They can make you headbang, they can make you pogo, they can make you cry like a baby. They are also five of the nicest people in music, without a shred of ego. They are funny and fun and world class musicians to boot. They are currently into their 12th year with the original line up. And they are the best live band I have ever witnessed!

Btw, Miku the rhythm guitarist (red rose) formed the band. She had the idea of Band-Maid after working as a maid in Japanese maid cafe's. Her idea is a concept called "The Gap" - that is what you see (cute maids) is NOT what you get (Hard Rock/Punk/Metal). They take the maid café concept literally. They call their concerts "servings" and their fans "Masters and Princesses". Oh, and Miku is an 810 year old small pigeon. Welcome to the pigeon hole Po!

Miku Kobato (小鳩 ミク) – rhythm guitar, vocals, PR (Band founder, lyricist ... our flappy pigeon, po!)
Kanami Tōno (遠乃 歌波) – lead guitar (musical composer extraordinaire - the princess)
Akane Hirose (廣瀬 茜) – drums, percussion (see bananas ... and ramen – the gorilla)
Misa – bass guitar (drinks hard liquor and performs without shoes on stage - the barefoot assassin)
Saiki Atsumi (厚見 彩姫) – lead vocals ("we dance in the palm of her hand" - Domination - The Queen)

Your reaction 35 seconds in? Every Band-Maid fan has experienced this. Then the goose bumps when they change time signatures mid-song multiple times, key changes too. Welcome, this song isn't a one-off, they have 130+ songs, all this quality, all different, all clearly Band-Maid.

Hannah, I like your reaction a lot. I don’t think you fully realise yet what you’ve just stumbled upon, and neither have your early commenters. Band Maid are the best heavy rock band I’ve heard in decades. They are unbelievable musicians and even better live than in the studio. Try some of their live videos, for instance ‘Domination’, ‘Hate?’, ‘Freedom’, ‘Don’t you tell me’. I can’t stop watching them.

The lead vocalist now accompanies herself on piano while singing "Choose Me". "Choose me" is one of their simpler songs and they can practically play it in their sleep, or while running around the venue. Band-Maid has been blazing their own course for eleven years and they just get stronger every year. This is a band to keep your eyes on.

The Maids are a remarkable collection of extraordinarily talented musicians who excel at every aspect of modern Rock music creation: Composition, Arrangement, Songwriting, Orchestration, Instrumentation, Recording, Production, Playing and Performance. If you stick with the journey, you’ll see it’s true.

They just released a new album “Epic Narratives” that’s absolutely glorious!

They pull in fans from all rock genres - pop-punk, emo, modern rock, classic rock, grunge, heavy metal; because the Maids are so talented and versatile with songs using elements of every rock style and genre imaginable!

We like to say the Maids are their own genre. They are in fact on the (back) cover of the Japanese Rolling Stone magazine this month. They have a goal of (peaceful) World Domination through music; and are on their way. They’ve toured Europe and North America before; they’ve stayed in Japan for 2024, but expect them to make a tour stop near you in 2025!

As for more songs; 😂. It’s a bit of a joke with us Masters & Princesses (or Maidiacs, if you prefer), because, literally, the Maids are probably the single most PROLIFIC band at writing great song after great song - EVER. They have songs across the rock music genre spectrum - we say they are their own genre. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Seriously, I’m not kidding - you’ll easily get 50-75 different song suggestions from 100 different people. And there’s a saying in the community; “Your favorite Band-Maid” song is the next one you listen to. 🤷🏻‍♂️

This is their 12th year together. They have written their own songs for most of the time. Their story and their music is worth spending time enjoying. They are wonderful live and just keep on getting better. Band Maid are simply talented musicians who deserve to be recognised as a great band.

The group mixes genres and write their own music. They are actually well regarded for their talent, having other groups wanting to do collaborations (The Warning and Band Maid recently for example) and instrument companies releasing signed versions (last week PRS guitars released the Kanami Tōno signature guitar for example). Even Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin went backstage to meet the drummer after a concert. Their live performances are outstanding. Check out the official live videos Domination (overall group dynamics), Hate? (an epic guitar and bass call and response), and Feedom (for a longer drum solo). Live and studio versions of their instrumentals will blow you away (Onset, From Now On, Giovanni, etc.). They made an acoustic Christmas special (a good opportunity to check out the skills of the backup singer and rhythm guitarist--don't be fooled, she is the founder, previous idol winner, the spokesperson). Ohrenje's biography series about the band members is long (7 half hour episodes) but you will get to know just how dedicated each are to their craft, their band, and their fans. A band that is worth checking out beyond their discography.
