This situation is where the ground drive on the old Massey Ferguson tractors was handy. You could put the tractor in reverse and slowly reverse the tiller and perhaps the chunk of wood would extract itself. It worked well for unchoking a clogged square hay baler too. I was thinking you might have put a winch or come-a-long on those tines and rotated the tiller backwards might have helped you too.

My Dad was tilling a spot for a garden many years ago and there was an old chain link fence he didn't see and boy did it wrap around the tines, ended up having to cut it out with bolt cutters and side cuts. Always watch for hidden hazards.

Seeing you trying to get that stump out of the tiller brought back not-so-happy memories of me trying to do a similar thing on my walk behind tiller. Evidently the area where we put our garden had some old field fencing buried that I got into. It was pretty frustrating sitting on my behind trying to get that tangled mess out.

I really enjoy your videos. Kinda neat to watch an old fly boy move dirt without making a loud "boom".

I jammed a stump in my stump grinder once. I used a saws-all to cut it out like you did with the chain saw.

You have to hate it when you cannot do things like you planned. Nice video and thanks for sharing the not so desirable things that can and do happen sir.

Great job Mr Hank. I usually use chain link fence with a large heavy piece of angle iron attached to it to use for a drag. It helps smooth everything

I've heard, though I don't have personal experience, that a way to dislodge a root or rock from the tiller is to (1) shift the PTO into neutral, or mid-PTO gear position, (2) raise the rear door out of the way, (3) rest the tines on the ground, then (4) back the tractor, thereby using the power of the tractor to turn the tiller backwards. Like all of my ideas, sounds brilliant to me.

What types of soil do you have on your property? Just wondering as it factors into runoff, erosion, and percolation.
